Why Choose S.A.M?

At S.A.M we teach the ‘why’ and not just the ‘how’ of math.

S.A.M’s Award Winning Pedagogy and Curriculum

S.A.M is known for its effective award-winning curriculum, which is based on the world renowned Singaporean method. Singapore Math is focused on teaching the skills and techniques that are required for problem solving and for understanding the foundation of math concepts.

S.A.M’s curriculum and pedagogy is the most relevant and comprehensive math enrichment program available today. With over 30,000 pages of carefully crafted worksheets, combined with a motivating and creative classroom experience, the S.A.M approach makes learning fun and interactive. Students learn at their own pace through an individual-based learning process that is thoughtfully planned by a qualified S.A.M Trainer.

According to results of the two most reputable education studies in the world: TIMSS (Trends in International Maths & Science Study) and PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment), Singapore Math continues to be recognized as the most successful national math program in the world since 1991. This is based on studies of more than 600,000 students in over 60 countries worldwide.

The Singapore Math curriculum and pedagogy is unique and revolutionary in its approach towards the subject of mathematics. It is the most effective complement to your child’s existing school math curriculum.

At S.A.M, we train children to develop an attitude of self-discovery and learning at a young age. Our trainers ask leading questions rather than spoon-feed information to children. A habit of self-learning and discovery transcends beyond the subject of mathematics alone; it will greatly benefit their learning of other subjects as well.

Singapore Math = Thinking Math = Problem Solving Math

Problem-solving is the foundation of Singapore Math.

Is your child ready for problem solving in math?
The biggest challenge in problem solving for young children is comprehension. Even children who are strong in math and literacy often have difficulty in the area of problem solving due to lack of comprehension. Often this is not a reflection of their abilities in either subject, but rather a reflection of the reality of the limits of a young brain, and its limited capacity to deconstruct words of a problem in a meaningful way.

Singapore Math uses unique and effective techniques to teach problem solving by giving your child the ability to convert the words of a problem into a meaningful visual representation of that problem..

In today’s complex world, a student requires more than just rote learning to excel in mathematics. At S.A.M, we focus on skills such as Critical Thinking, Heuristics, and Logical Reasoning to give children the tools they will need to succeed in math.

We adopt a holistic approach throughout our program. It begins with our trainers engaging our students with thought-provoking questions in the classroom to presenting the students with solutions that are enlightening and insightful. S.A.M students are well equipped with an array of skills to confidently embrace the challenges that await them in the world of mathematics.

Our Methods

Number Bonds and Number Sense: Number Bonds are pictorial representations of how numbers can be broken down and reconstructed in ways that make it easy for your child to do mental math and to build a solid foundation in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Understanding number bonds leads to a powerful command of number sense, and number sense is the key to understanding virtually all mathematical concepts.

The Bar Model Method is a unique characteristic of Singapore Math. Bar modelling is used as a visual approach to problem solving, allowing children the ability to understand, interpret and conceptualize word problems. The Bar Model Method deconstructs the words in a problem and allows for the student to reconstruct the problem as a visual representation of that problem. The science is indisputable - in problem solving, being able to visualize the words of a problem by way of a pictorial rendition of it is much more effective than relying on word comprehension alone.

Using these unique and effective methods, as well as many others taught in our curriculum, will give your child the right tools to make problem solving comprehensible.

The Classroom Experience: Qualified S.A.M trainers understand that their role is not just to instill mathematical knowledge in students, but also to develop in them the right learning attitude and self discipline to prepare them for the future.

The small and engaging classroom dynamic conducted by certified S.A.M trainers engages students with dialogue, probing questions, props, games and a constant encouragement. We show concrete examples through manipulates, and fun and interesting games to reinforce important mathematical concepts. The idea is to make learning fun and memorable through an array of interactive experiences.

The Worksheet Experience engages each student individually in their own designated time for a limited amount of practice at home. This regime instills self discipline and independent learning, both necessary skills required in all manners of learning, not just mathematics. The volume of work and level of difficulty are all carefully calibrated to ensure that learning remains challenging, yet fun for every student at S.A.M.Your child learns through practice worksheets, in class and at home. Our worksheets are designed to hone the most relevant skills and methods for your child to excel in mathematics.

With the right attitude, we believe that every child can be successful in mathematics. At S.A.M, we strongly emphasize independent thinking and self-discovery.

We feel that confidence and sense of achievement are important elements in your child’s personal development, and our certified trainers dedicate themselves to promoting these qualities. In conjunction with our holistic approach to mathematics, our worksheet model further instills diligence and discipline in your child.

At S.A.M, our intention is for your child to cultivate these attitudes and to transfer them to other areas of life. Although we use math as the vehicle to solve the problems in our program, our ultimate goal is to use problem solving as the vehicle to develop and improve your child’s skills in everyday life.

S.A.M’s philosophy of learning is one that involves having the right skills for problem-solving and the ability to transfer those skills to everyday life. Singapore’s approach to teaching the foundations of math makes learning math more meaningful and relatable.

At S.A.M, every child is taught these significant skills:

  • Critical Thinking - the ability to identify and evaluate information
  • Logical Reasoning - the ability to assess possible outcomes based on the information given
  • Heuristics - applying different suitable methods when problem-solving
